Visual Arts Background

I am also an artist. This website was developed to showcase my art and the work I do to support the visual and performing arts in Stamford, Connecticut.

I studied art at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where I majored in English. The artist, Robert Tiemann, who taught at Trinity, was an early influence and for several years in the late 1970s, we shared studio space in a building he leased on the corner of Austin and 10th Streets. While in college, I worked as an illustrator, photographer, and graphic designer for publications and theater groups. After starting my career at USAA, I also maintained a studio and continued to paint, primarily using commercial latex and oil-based house paints on large sheets of rag paper. In the 1980s, I studied lithography with the artist and master printmaker, Peter Nickel at the San Antonio Art Institute. While photography, has been an enduring interest, my recent work tends to be large format abstract paintings. Since 2002, I have painted exclusively in artist’s oils on canvas. I also produce digital drawings, photos and highly processed digital images.

My paintings have been in group shows at the McNay Museum in San Antonio and the Art League of San Antonio. I have exhibited my work in many galleries, including the Artisans Gallery in San Antonio and at Spirals in Madison, Wisconsin. Spirals sold my paintings exclusively for a period and placed work in designer show homes. After moving to Stamford, Connecticut in 2006, I sold my paintings through the Connecticut Antique Center. While I am not represented by an art dealer, I typically sell two or three paintings a year, most often by word of mouth. Inquiries from potential purchasers, curators and dealers are always welcome.
